We're piloting a new Buzz meeting format for Wednesday mornings!

Utilizing the Design Clinic format used in the Whatcom Community Fellows program, we'll be engaging in collaborative dialogue to assist one another in problem-solving to address challenges in our work and personal lives. This is an opportunity to learn from one another, discuss challenges and successes in our environments, build skills in providing effective feedback, and brainstorm new solutions for our community. Join us to learn more!

As a reminder, we will continue our Tuesday morning Buzz Meetings throughout the fall from 8:15-9 am. We hope this new Wednesday format paired with our Tuesday meeting will provide unique and fresh opportunities to connect with your fellow young professionals!

All Buzz Meetings are currently held virtually through Zoom:

While many of us have previously used Zoom in our everyday work, we wanted to provide some helpful guidelines and tools to help you prepare for our Virtual Buzz Meetings:

How will a Virtual Buzz work?

We will meet using the free video conferencing program Zoom. Much like our in-person Weekly Buzz, you are welcome to drop in without advance registration. If our numbers are greater than 5, we will use the Zoom breakout function to break into small groups for more discussion.

Because this is a social occasion, we ask that you leave your video on for the duration of the Buzz. Mute your audio when you are not speaking. We have links to help you get started with Zoom if you haven't used it previously.

Advice for Getting Started with Zoom

1. Download Zoom for iOS or Windows by clicking here

You don't have to create an account unless you want to schedule your own meetings. As long as you have it downloaded to your device, the link above will work.

2. Test your device's audio and microphone here

3. Familiarize yourself with controls ahead of time by Joining a Test Meeting.

a. Locate and try the chat function

b. Practice switching between speaker view (only shows the person talking) and gallery view (displays multiple people)

c. Practice muting and unmuting yourself

4. Still have questions? Zoom has an excellent help center. If you are still confused after reviewing articles in the help center, contact Whatcom YP Advisory Council member Rhys Hansen at rhys@terracognita.studio for support.
